(Robert
Burns, Tam O' Shanter) "But pleasures are like poppies
spread, You seize the flow'r, its bloom is shed; Or like the snow falls in the
river, A moment white-then melts for ever; Or like the Borealis race, That flit
ere you can point their place; Or like the Rainbow's lovely form, Evanishing
amid the storm."
Top Table Guests, Eddie Gaughan, John McKellar,

The Club's St Andrews Night Dinner took place
in the function room of the Vale of Leven Bowling Club on Friday
24 November 2006. when 102 members and guests celebrated our Patron
Saint and Scotland.
After an excellent meal served by Venue
Caterers, Vice President Harry Summers introduced his top table
guests. The Toast to our Toon - the Vale of Leven was proposed
by Club Member Vince Dolan and the Toast to Scotland by another
member John McKellar.
Both speakers were making their debut at
a Club function. Vince's Toast covered not only the positives of
living in the lovely valley but also highlighted a number of the
problems which currently blight our community.
John's Toast took
us on a journey through Scottish History from the time of the Romans
and included reference to the effect of the Renaissance and the
Scottish Enlightenment. Both the speeches were well
received by the members and guests.
Sangs and Clatter were provided by Eddie
Gaughan supplemented by another debutant folk singer Peter
Parlane. Duncan McLean, 'The Bard of
the Vale', read a couple of his own poems and our Chairman Ian
Collins provided a cameo performance with
a few of his very funny stories.
The evening concluded with a vote
of thanks from Harry Summers and the company singing Auld Lang
Syne.
