ALEXANDRIA BURNS CLUB
St Andrews Night Celebration 25 NOVEMBER 2011

The Club's St Andrews Night was held in the function suite of the Vale of Leven Bowling Club, where 86 members and guests enjoyed an excellent meal provided by Robert Mills of Venue Caterers.

The nights ongoings were chaired by our new President Fergus McLellan.

The Toast to Oor Toon and Scotland were given by Alan Stewart and Bob Nicholson, respectively. Alan, a Club member, made an excellent debut and no doubt will be heard again in the not too distant future. Both speeches were well received by the members.

Our singers for the evening were Rob Ewing and Malky Fraser who were making their first appearance at the club. They sang a good selection of Scots songs, hitting the right tone for the evening.

Willie Kelly made a return after some years and his Sangs and Clatter was a resounding success.

After his virtuoso performance last year, Jim O’Hare was invited back to entertain on the mouth organ, he did not disappoint.

Bob Wyllie substituted for the Bard of the Vale Duncan McLean and read one of Duncan’s poems the Wail of the Vale together with another poem from local poet Hugh Caldwell - ‘I cannae get a lad’.

An innovation this year was that each person received a Song Sheet and Jim McNiven led the company in Beautiful Vale and the Lovely Valley.

The evening concluded with a vote of thanks from the Chairman and the company singing Auld Lang Syne.
