ALEXANDRIA BURNS CLUB
St Andrews Night Celebration 29th November 2013

The usual venue, the function suite of the Vale of Leven Bowling Club, was the setting for the annual St Andrew's Night celebration. A virtually full house gathered there to enjoy the evening. The excellent meal was provided by our usual caterer, Robert Mills of Venue Catering.

Chairman Fergus McLellan, Bryan Weir, Robert Ryan and Jim O'Hare

President Fergus McLellan was in the chair for the evening. Fergus welcomed the company in his opening remarks and after the Selkirk Grace dinner was served. After dinner and a short recess the evening got under way with Robert Ryan, who entertained us with two songs including Green Grow the Rashes. Robert is an excellent singer, musician and harmonica player and his contributions were much appreciated by the audience.

Bryan Weir then delivered the main toast of the evening, the Toast to Scotland followed by Bob Wyllie who as usual had turned up with some humourous contributions and rhymes.

Frank Kelly has entertained us in the past but we have not seen him for two or three years. An excellent musician and singer as well as being a born comedian, Frank had the audience in tears of laughter as usual. Jim O'Hare on the "moothie" has become a fixture at our St Andrew's night and Jim followed Frank with a selection of tunes that were again very much appreciated.

After a short interval the second half of the evening started with Graham Lappin's Toast to "Oor Toon". Graham is an expert in the Chartist movement in the Vale and he covered this in a very knowledgeable way.

The evening continued with further enjoyable contributions from Robert Ryan. Jim O'Hare and Frank Kelly before Chairman Fergus and Bryan Weir led the company in the singing of Beautiful Vale and The Lovely Valley. A very successful evening was then concluded with a vote of thanks and Auld Lang Syne. The committee would like to thank all artistes for their efforts and the audience for their excellent order. We would also like to thank member Tommy Gilmour for providing the photos of the evening.
