ALEXANDRIA BURNS CLUB
St Andrews Night Celebration 24th November 2017
Around 80 members and guests gathered in our usual venue, The Vale of Leven Bowling Club, for our annual celebration of Scotland and our patron saint, St Andrew.

President Ian Embelton welcomed everyone to the event and after the usual excellent meal, served by Robert Mills of Venue catering and his team, the toast got under way with club member Robert Ryan proposing the Toast to Scotland. Robert's toast was witty and musical. He accompanied himself on guitar and once again proved what an asset he will be as a member..

We were then entertained by club members, Rock McDonald and Willie Kelly. Rock provided a rousing selection of Scots songs followed by Willie with his usual hilarious music and comedy act once more proving very popular with the audience. Rock and Willie entertained us again in the second half of the evening.
During the last few years Jim O'Hare has become a permanent fixture on our St Andrew's night programmes with his "moothie". Jim is an excellent musician and he demonnstrated this once again. Jim seems to be improving with age and his selections are always appropriate and appreciated by the audience.
Blair Allan, who proposed the Toast to Oor Toon, is a new face at our top table. Blair is a local lad from Gartocharn, who now lives in Stepps. Blair, who is also now a member of the Alexandria Burns Club, proposed an amusing toast and we will no doubt be seeing him at future events.
Bob Wyllie generally makes an appearance at our St Andrew's night. He tasks himself with sourcing some original Scottish themed poetry of a more modern nature and he never fails to deliver. He did so once again this year.
This was another successful St Andrew's evening for our club and our thanks are due to all those who made it happen and all those who took part.
